we’Re glad you found Us!

Situated on the main London Road in the delightful market town of Alton, our traditional English pub has something for everyone. Half way between Winchester and Farnham, on the Surrey/Hampshire border, we are proud to be part of the local history this area offers. Jane Austen and Gilbert Whites houses are in surrounding villages and poor Sweet Fanny Adam’s’ grave in the local churchyard, in fact rumour has it that Dick Turpin himself hid in our cellar!
Alton boasts great train links with London and also has its own steam train with The Watercress Line between Alton -Ropley-Alresford.

Open seven days a week, serving fine ales, a selection of lagers, wines and spirits with homemade food cooked by our husband and wife team.

ABOUT US

Your hosts Darren and Anna are true locals and are proud to own this pub which really is the heart of the community. Having been at The Queens Head since 2004 we have a wealth of local knowledge and along with our friendly staff are happy to make your time in Alton as enjoyable as possible. Whether you are stopping for a quick drink and a bag or crisps, a family meal or catch up with friends, you’re assured a warm welcome at The Queens Head.

Here at The Queens Head, we don’t claim to be posh or offer fine dining. We are a traditional pub with a jukebox, pool table and darts boards.
Our meals are mostly homemade, proper hearty food, cooked with passion not by a microwave!

We have a separate restaurant which can seat upto 40 with a comfy sofa area if you prefer not to sit in our main bar.

A sneak peek at what we offer

→Our drinks

We are pleased to regularly feature in the Good Beer Guide. Darren is a stickler for keeping his beers fresh, crisp and clean; changing the ales throughout the seasons. We have a selection of wines available by the glass or bottle with gins during the summer and malt whisky in the winter months.

→Our Food

With so many homemade options on the menu, you may find it hard to choose! Our pies are legendary but do bring a hearty appetite! The phrase traditional homemade pub food was made for us. We don’t coin posh terms, custard is custard not crème anglaise but you won’t be disappointed.

→ Our garden

With possibly the biggest and best beer garden in Hampshire, during the summer months please ensure you reserve your table to avoid disappointment.
